Rolf Potts: Round the World Trip with No Luggage

Ultra-Light Packing: Travel with No Luggage

Rolf Potts is going on a round the world trip, and he isn’t checking any luggage. He’s also not putting anything beneath the seat in front of him. Rolf will only have a few items in his pockets, including his own underwear (and, if he gets lucky, someone else’s), as well as a few other items (What Rolf Potts is wearing or carrying). I hope he’s ready for a spike in “random” security checks at the gate.

Rolf’s not doing this to prove he’s cooler than us, though I suppose it’s a possibility. He wants to demonstrate that you can enjoy a trip without packing the kitchen sink- indeed, your journey can improve by your not being saddled with lots of bags.

One caveat: not all of us can afford to buy new stuff everywhere we land- there’s a real-world tradeoff between ultralight and budget-conscious.

In the end, that remember that going without luggage and packing ultra-light need not be an extreme act. It isn’t a contest, or a rite of travel-superiority: It’s just a great way to eliminate distractions and concentrate on the experience of the journey itself.

In other words, you don’t lose Jet Trash street cred if you bring jeans. I’m on the fence about those neck-pillows, though…

Over to you, Mister Potts, and good luck!

About Jordan

Jordan Matthew Yerman started writing during his third year of high school, where his teacher discouraged his use of the eff-word as "crude, unnecessary and uncouth". While attending UC San Diego for his degree in Political Science, Jordan picked up acting; he would later attend the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art, living in the UK for four years before relocating to New York City. To get by, he has worked as a proofreader, model, technical consultant, HR trainer, sign-placer, sales director, crate stacker, bartender, photographer, real estate broker, and as an exhibit at the Bronx Museum. As an actor, Jordan has performed in the USA, England, Scotland, Germany, Belgium, and Netherlands, from stage to indie screen to voiceover, including London's West End. Jordan has been around the world 2 3/4 times. He currently lives in Vancouver and works in New Media; capital N, capital M. You can reach him via jordan at international jet trash dot com.
